I remember sitting at home back when I used to own a piece of Oakville real estate and watching the hit television show Boston Public. If you have not seen it, the show centers around the lives of several teachers in one of Boston's public schools. Although not quite as bad as the portrayals of Los Angeles schools in Dangerous Minds, the show nevertheless does nothing to flatter the public school system in Boston.
However, something that a lot of us have forgotten today is that what we see on the screen - movies and television - is often an extreme exaggeration of reality. Everyone could keep this in perspective if they would just think about how easy it seems to be on television for everyone to pick each other up; even if you're really good looking, try one of those lines on the first person you see coming out of Merton Street condos and you're likely to get a dirty look, at best.
Well, that portrayal of Boston schools is just as distorted as the average love life of your doctor on Gray's Anatomy. In reality, almost every public school in Boston is just as safe for your kids as it is for families who have purchased Mississauga homes for sale up north in Canada, where tales of American violence are greatly added to.
In fact, Boston has one of the best (not to mention the oldest) public high school systems in the entire United States of America. That's been backed up by publications as prestigious as Forbes magazine. This fact is enough for many to feel a little bit more comfortable about putting their Riverdale Toronto house for sale and moving their family down to Boston, should that life choice come up.
The public school system isn't the only educational strength which makes the city great for families. If you have visions of your children living with you as they attend university, instead of going through the real estate listings for Markham in order to afford housing while they attend elsewhere, Boston is the perfect place for you. There are more than 100 different colleges and universities in Boston, and it is known as a major center of knowledge in the US. In fact, it has been called the Athens of America!
In short, Boston is a great place for families. An impeccable education system combined with an upper education mind style for the whole city makes it safe and a great place to raise kids.
